Museum Work!

I Live,Breathe, Eat, Sleep, and enjoy museums! Here's a small sample of my work.

Air Fair: The History of Airports in Queens

This is an educational program i put together while i was the Education and Outreach coordinator with the Queens Historical Society. I helped QHS pivot to digital programming within a month of the pandemic shutdown. This program was a project I undertook to better undertstand the history of air travel in Queens County! It was fun to get to do a nice little deep dive into the subject. Starts at 3:20 in the video!

Kingsland Homestead VR Tour

This project was me experimenting with resiliant web design, and museum technology. Museums love technology, but usually that tech is contracted out to 3rd parties, and even worse, some of the tech services are also 3rd party. This leads to eventual link rot as the 3rd parties go under, or are absorbed in tech conglomeration, and then services discontinue or start to be out of budget. In response to this, i looked into how to go about doing something like having a VR tour of a museum space without relying on any 3rd parties. i found A-Frame , and decided that this allowed this kind of tech to be implimented! Sticking a local copy of the required code on the server, and self hosting the images, this VR tour shouldnt break as long as the webserver is properly hosted!

I adapted someone elses code to make the dot to dot navigation system, but the photos are all mine. I Initially tried this project using the android camera's photo sphere system, but it was pretty janky. Then i bought a Ricoh Theta V, and was able to start taking proper 360 camera shots. Then i discovered the importance of making sure you dont change the compass orientation of the camera as you capture the pictures of the space. This allowed for smoother navigation from spot to spot. That way when people arrive at the next way point, they are facing the correct direction.

ive also done this for King Manor!
